Scottish Charity : SCO 35891 Audition Guide Induction and Auditioning Guide 1. The induction and auditioning process is to evaluate and record your abilities and potential as a prospective member of the chorus, and provide the support necessary to give you every opportunity to achieve membership. 2. What we want to know a. The range of your voice so you are singing the correct part. b. If you can sing on pitch. c. If you can commit a song to memory. d. If you can hold a part when surrounded by others singing in different parts. e. How your voice blends with the rest of the chorus. 3. You come to a rehearsal anytime, as a guest. You will be given a folder containing the music for our repertoire. You can sit and listen and follow what is going on, and joining in on the risers when invited. (It is not always convenient for a visitor to do so) You can come as often as you like. You must, however, return the folder at the end of the evening. 4. When you decide you would like to join the chorus, you will have to fill in an application form. (This gives us a record of who you are!) You will then get the sheet music for two songs and a CD with learning tracks for these songs. These songs are to be learned by heart with a target of 100% knowledge of the words and notes. 5. You will get an initial voice test to check you can sing within the range of the part in which you would like to sing. (If you find that you are uncomfortable singing in that range you can change to a different part). 6. After about 4 weeks or when ever you feel ready, you can ask to be assessed. This will be done whilst singing in the section with the chorus. Your assessment will be reviewed by the Section Leader and the Chorus Director. If passed, you will be able to join the chorus as a full member on payment of the appropriate membership fee. If you do not pass, you will be given every opportunity to try again. 7. During this period you will get the opportunity to sing these songs with the chorus prior to your audition. 8. We will allocate a member of the chorus to be your mentor/buddy who will help you with the songs and your integration into the chorus as a whole. 10. Upon a successful audition you will be given copies of the relevant repertoire at that time, and with the appropriate CDs, plus the Members Handbook giving details of how to access learning aids, website details, dress, riser etiquette and other necessary information or where to get it.
